"Since a project only generates returns once operations begin, the speed at which it ramps up to nameplate capacity is essential."

PRESIDENT AND CEO, PROGESYS

What work would you highlight in Québec?

Progesys remains deeply engaged in Québec’s aluminum and infrastructure sectors. The company is advancing key projects for smelters, including important modernization and remelt projects, and was recently awarded a major role in Rio Tinto’s Alma smelter. At the same time, we are leading the project and construction management of a multi-kilometer tubular conveyor at the Port of Saguenay, a critical expansion that will boost port capacity and logistics efficiency. While activity continues across Progesys’ core projects, we have seen delays in some large-scale mining developments in eastern Canada. Many of these projects are now expected to remain in the pre-final investment decision (FID) phase through most of 2025 and potentially into first half of 2026.

Could you tell us more about Progesys’ recent activity in Asia?

From our Jakarta office, we manage consultancy work with multiple clients across Indonesia, providing early-stage advisory services that offer valuable insight into project development and future Project Management Consultancy (PMC) opportunities. Currently, we are supporting the ramp-up of the BAI Alumina Refinery and remain engaged with two mining projects in the country. In Mongolia, we reached a major milestone at Oyu Tolgoi earlier this year with the start of production underground earlier this year and recent deliveries at the concentrator, the mine achieved record copper production in March in line with underground ramp-up plan, a key achievement that was well received by the client. We are also exploring new opportunities in Vietnam and Malaysia.

Where are some of Progesys’ current PMC projects located, and what is their scope?

Our unique approach is based on the fact that owner engagement is statistically tied to project success. At Progesys, as PMC contractor, our culture, approach, technology solutions, and services, are built around that fact: to empower the project owner and deliver exceptional outcomes.

Progesys is delivering full PMC services across global flagship projects. Our PMC services for the delivery of the alumina refinery in Indonesia are now being completed with full handover to the client Owner team. We are delivering PMC services in the mining and steel industry in the Middle East. In Africa we are currently constructing a waste treatment plant for the oil industry in the Republic of Congo. And in Canada, current full PMC contracts include, among others, the jet fuel terminal in East Montreal, the expansion of the Port of Saguneay, and the Valentine gold project in Newfoundland.

How would you describe Progesys’ approach to ensuring operational readiness?

Progesys approaches operational readiness as a critical, time-bound event. With only one chance to start a plant successfully, the objective is to ensure that every function – HR, IT, supply chain, operations, and maintenance – is fully aligned and prepared by day zero. Our company’s mission, “Get it right from the start,” reflects this high-stakes coordination. Progesys acts as the orchestrator, bringing together all stakeholders months in advance to meet complex project requirements. Since a project only generates returns once operations begin, the speed at which it ramps up to nameplate capacity is essential. We help owners achieve readiness, accelerate operational success, and maximize capital projects ROI.

What is your approach to implementing AI and Industry 4.0?

We see digitization and automation as essential for efficiency, but only when systems are tailored to the project’s specific needs. Progesys’ proprietary commissioning solution, CommissioningForce, and operational readiness solution, ORForce – now in their fourth generation – run on the Salesforce Lightning Platform and integrate AI-driven data analysis for enhanced performance. In a recent benchmarking done by a top business consulting firm of a long list of solutions for project delivery and completion, CommissioningForce ranked in the top 3.

Where do you expect Progesys to be growing in the coming months?

Our growth in the regions we serve is fuelled by our reputation, which is driven by the success of the projects we deliver. We continue to keep that our outmost priority and we are seeing the company experiencing strong year-over-year growth.

We will deliver more PMC contracts in eastern Canada, kick-off projects in Brazil and  Indonesia,  and expand our work in Middle East and Africa. Progesys now has a local presence in Saudi Arabia, shifting from remote support to establishing operations within the country itself.
