Could you provide an overview of the company’s background and its presence in Saudi Arabia?
With over 50 years in drilling industry, starting in 1972 with water well equipment and later expanding into construction, geotechnical, and mining rigs with exports to 75+ countries, PRD is now expanding our focus to the Saudi Arabian mining and mineral exploration, supplying reverse circulation (RC), diamond core, and air core rigs. Our equipment has been operating locally in oil and gas projects for over seven years, and we began targeting mining and exploration in 2023 after attending the Future Minerals Forum.
Strong market response highlights Saudi Arabia as a key growth region for us. With 25 rigs in operation and GAS Arabian Services as a local distributor with branches across the Kingdom, PRD is the leading exploration equipment brand in KSA. We are also finalizing our own in-country service and spare-parts facility to ensure faster, more efficient support.
With Saudi Arabia’s exploration activity set to expand significantly, how do you foresee the market developing and the opportunities for PRD?
PRD is well known globally for the customer loyalty and quick deliveries. Our teams across regions are continuously evaluating the unique market dynamics of each region, provide insight that helps us update our three factories in India. This aids us in adjusting our production schedules and ensures that equipment are delivered with minimal lead time.
How are you managing distribution, service, and support to meet the demands of mining operations in Saudi Arabia?
Our local distributor, Gas Arabian Services, is a leading listed company with in-depth experience equipment distribution, and it manages spare parts and on-site support. Our factory-trained technicians provide fast and reliable support to meet Saudi Arabia’s demanding mining operations.
How do your rigs handle Saudi Arabia’s extreme mining conditions?
Drawing on decades of experience in Africa’s toughest mining environments, our rigs are built to perform in Saudi Arabia’s extreme site conditions. As a result of PRD’s unique design with minimal electronics and best in class components, our machines ensure reliable, high-performance operations.
All rigs supplied in Saudi Arabia to date have operated flawlessly, providing clients with robust, efficient, and dependable equipment in one of the most challenging mining operations.
With predictive maintenance and AI becoming critical for OEMs, how is PRD integrating these technologies?
Safety is the top priority in mining, and our RC machines reflect this with hands-free rod handling systems. Our strong R&D team leverages an integrated ERP and machine lifecycle system to track every stage, from quotation and production to commissioning and maintenance. This allows us to monitor performance, identify recurring issues, refine designs, and provide clients with detailed machine histories, helping them maximize uptime and ROI.
How do you ensure fast maintenance and spare parts availability for Saudi operations?
To ensure maximum uptime, we created our GASS (Global After Sales and Support) division, a dedicated team managing service and spare parts from commissioning onwards. Factory-trained distributor engineers handle on-site support, while our global spare parts hubs ensure quick deliveries. All breakdowns and service issues are monitored centrally to continuously improve reliability and performance.
Can you explain PRD’s strategy for building local drilling expertise in Saudi Arabia?
Once our service center is operational in Saudi Arabia by the end of Q1 2026, we are planning to launch training programs for local technicians and engineers. These programs, in collaboration with customers and educational institutions, will cover drilling operations and machine maintenance. Trainees can attend sessions in India or at the Saudi center, helping us build a skilled local workforce to support our machines on-site and also develop a strong drilling community in the region.
How do you see your market presence and leadership evolving in Saudi Arabia?
The Saudi drilling market is diverse and price-sensitive, spanning large multinationals, mid-sized operators, and smaller players. PRD is stepping foot into the market strategically, offering affordable yet efficient equipment, starting with a service center to build local relationships and support. A blueprint is also ready for a factory in Saudi, which will cater to KSA and the whole MENA region. This will allow the company to scale production and respond quickly to demand.
