Can you introduce us to Levert and how it supports the mining industry in Canada?

Founded in 1983, Levert is a privately owned personnel resources company headquartered in Sudbury. Our core values of safety, integrity, innovation, and partnership guide everything we do. Safety is at the heart of our operations, especially within the mining sector. We currently have approximately 500 workers in the field, and as of October 2025, we proudly achieved 1.25 million hours worked without a lost-time incident.

Levert serves as a key stepping stone into the mining industry, helping connect skilled tradespeople with companies that need their expertise. Many of the workers we place go on to be hired full-time by our client companies. We provide both permanent and temporary staffing solutions, ensuring flexibility to meet the industry’s evolving needs.

Some of our team members have been with Levert for over 30 years, gaining experience on numerous projects across various locations. Our long-term success comes from building and maintaining strong relationships with our clients; staying close to our customers is what sets us apart.

What do you look for when recruiting workers to join Levert?

We focus on recruiting qualified professionals who already have the necessary certifications and experience to work in the mining industry. For those looking to enter the field, a background in technical subjects and completion of the basic modules required for underground or open-pit work are essential. Because staffing agencies must respond quickly to shifting project demands, our workers must be prepared to travel frequently.

Finding skilled talent is challenging today, but the talent is out there, and at Levert, we have the resources to find it and bring quality workers to northern Ontario. We run continuous recruitment campaigns and employ nine full-time recruiters dedicated to meeting the needs of the industry. We operate offices in Sudbury, Timmins, and Rouyn-Noranda, Québec, and also have operations in Newfoundland.

While we always prioritize hiring from northern Ontario, there are not enough young people from this region entering the industry directly. When possible, we also prioritize recruitment from nearby First Nations communities. We find it advantageous to hire workers who can work on projects within about 100 miles of home, but sometimes that is not possible. Levert has the capacity to hire workers from across Canada, and in 95% of cases, we can find the workers we need right here in Canada.

What are the keys to Levert maintaining its safety record?

Maintaining Levert’s safety record relies on two key commitments. First is our obligation to our workers well-being, which guides everything from our internal operations to the partners we choose. We are also consistently looking for ways to improve, through rigorous internal audits and by having partnerships with those customers who demonstrate a matching commitment to safety.

Can you elaborate on Levert’s relationships with the communities in northern Ontario?

We operate through a growing number of partnerships with indigenous communities from coast to coast ensuring the workers we provide are compliant with and contribute to the success of local impact and benefit agreements.

What are Levert’s plans for the coming year?

We are fortunate to have an outstanding and loyal customer base; some clients have trusted Levert with their business for more than 40 years, since I founded the company. While base metals such as nickel and cobalt have performed weaker in recent years, we have successfully adapted to the industry’s growing focus on gold projects. Our copper clients also remain strong and consistent. These market shifts are a normal part of the mining industry to which we are accustomed.

Levert’s longevity comes from the scale and adaptability of our operations. We are continuing to expand into new regions and sectors, pursuing mining opportunities both within Ontario and across Canada. Beyond our projects in Ontario, Québec, and Newfoundland and Labrador. We are also partnering with clients on initiatives in the Arctic. As demand for fly-in, fly-out projects increases, Levert is well-positioned to support clients across a broader range of locations and environments.
