Australia’s power and mining industries have long been firmly positioned among the world’s leaders, at least in terms of their economic might. Yet things are changing. New efforts to move away from coal-fired generation are forcing a rapid rise in renewable and alternative energy expertise. The poor state of global mining finance is leading companies to look at new jurisdictions and find innovative methods of financing. In both cases, the former brute strength of the sectors is giving way to a more sophisticated leadership.
